National conference on Livestock Production begins at SKUAST-J

JAMMU, Apr 10: Three- day national conference on Technological Interventions for Sustainable Livestock Production, began today at SKUAST-Jammu, under the aegis of Society for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension.
Er Abdul Ghani Kohli, Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries, J&K, was the chief guest in the inaugural function while more than 200 scientists, researchers, extension specialist and scholars are participating in the conference.
The minister, while addressing the delegates, said that this platform will come up with concrete recommendations useful for framing the policy issues of the livestock sector in the J&K State. He stressed that the interdisciplinary approach is required to tap the vast livestock potential existing in our State for meeting the milk and meat production.
Prof Pradeep K Sharma, VC SKUAST-Jammu, highlighted that the Animal Husbandry sector plays significant role in development of State economy, particularly in rural areas of J&K. He emphasized that the latest technological advances and developments in the field of animal husbandry should reach to the doorsteps of the farming community.
Prof Nazeer Ahmed, VC SKUAST-Kashmir, said that the breed improvement and technological management options are the viable alternative to accelerate the growth and productivity in the Animal Husbandry sector.
R K Bhagat, Commissioner Secretary Animal/Sheep Husbandry, said that the recommendations of the mega event will be useful to the stakeholders in the arena of animal husbandry.
Earlier, Dr K S Risam, Director Extension and Organizing Secretary, besides the statutory officers and HOD’s of the University, presented a formal welcome address.
On the occasion, Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred upon Dr K S Risam for his contribution in the field of veterinary extension.
