Srinagar, Apr 6: Jammu and Kashmir Central Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCCC) today threatened to boycott developmental and Darbar move works in the State if Government fails to clear their pending liability by April 25.
“We have been pushed to the wall as the Government is not clearing the pending liabilities,” said General Secretary JKCCCC Farooq Ahmed Dar in a press conference here. He accused Government of being insensitive towards the sufferings of the contractors. “State Government owes Rs 400 crore to the contractors in Kashmir on account of works done under Cities and Towns Plan,” he said.
There are other pending bills on account of work done under various heads, he said, adding that despite taking up the issue with every concerned official and Ministers from Jammu to Srinagar there is no action on ground. The apex contractors’ body General Secretary warned if Government fails to clear the liability they will stop renovation of houses, huts, bungalows and other related works of ministers and other higher officials.
He said they don’t want to come on roads, but Government is pushing us on roads. “But we did not relent. We will wait and if the money is not released we will boycott other big projects. We have already asked other contractors to extend their support to us,” he said. He blamed non-State bureaucracy for all “mess”.
While speaking on the occasion, the JKCCCC president Haji Akbar Paul said that the previous PDP-BJP Government had assured them that their pending bills would be cleared. “Government owes us Rs 400 crore for works we did in the past. Now against the Government’s apathy we have decided not to work till the money is released,” he said.
