Army to introspect

Sir,
Ref to the article “The Army must introspect’ DE Jan 25 written by a retired Major General of the Indian Army, I would like to add some more points on the above subject.
Firstly, though psychological tests are conducted by the SSB to determine mental suitability for civil service for those desirous to join as officers directly from civil but officers are also selected from OR and JCOs in the Army. The most important aspect is the standard of basic military training given to recruits by  their respective training centres. This aspect has been diluted. The recruits who join these days do not become mentally fit within a span of 18 weeks of basic military training. It should be reviewed.
Secondly, the roles of the Army and Para military forces and Armed police are quite different. Thereby the mode of their enrolements and training period. The welfare of the jawans is mostly looked after by the JCOs in the Army. Most of the JCOs get their promotion after 20 years of service. They have better experiences as compared to junior leaders of Para military forces and Armed police, who mostly join directly. Junior leaders act as bridges between officers and jawan. The cleavage among officers, JCOs and jawans is required to be minimized.
Thirdly, the behaviour of the officers should be friendly to-wards the jawans at ground level and not only a papers. Officers, JCOs and jawans should live like a conglomerate at every stage.
Fourthly, the smart phone facility should be restricted in the Army. Only those officials who have been assigned such duties where its use is considered a must, should be allowed for it.
Lastly, only a few volunteer retired soldiers who joined Army only to get the benefit of Ex-veterns quota in civil services have been speaking in front of social media. This is an act of indiscipline even for an ex-vetern. It is un-acceptable. Atleast some norms are required to be set for those VRS without PPO number by the CDA. They are also getting all facilities of ex-veterans after serving a couple of years in the Army.
Yours etc….
