JAMMU, Dec 25: In the ongoing 10 day Annual Drama Festival being organized by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today, Yamini Cultural Society presented a Hindi play ‘Aathvan Sarg’, written by Surender Verma and directed by Neha Lalotra here at Abhinab Theatre , Jammu .
The play ‘Aathvan Sarg’ is a prevailing socio-cultural condition under which ‘Ujjaini’s’ citizens exhibit high aesthetic sensibilities. ‘Kumar Sambhav’ is the masterpiece which is being written by ‘Kalidass’ that gathers more abhorrence from the royal patronage in the Ujjain while the King ‘Chandergupta’ tries to pacify ‘Kalidass’ to change or mild the subject of eighth chapter which may not hurt the sentiments of the people.
This turns acerbic for ‘Kalidass’ who refuses to budge down while the King announces a committee to look into the finalities of the chapter which is pooh-poohed by ‘Kalidass’.
The committee members are chosen who are alienated to the subject that gives ‘Kalidass’ uneasy moments who leaves the Kumar ‘Sambhav’ in midst, not agreeing to complete it.
‘Aathvan Sarg’, hence remains incomplete. The play is subjugation of the poetic mind of a creative artist by the kingly overruling and hence the directorial precisions are very clinic to take the subject like ‘Aathvan Sarg’.
In its realist proscenium portrayal, the play ‘Aathvan Sarg’ is intertwined with some focal highlights also.
‘Kirtibhat’ accompanying ‘Kalidas’ into forlorn settings to complete the eighth chapter and his revelation to female courtiers Ansuya and ‘Priyamvada’ in piecemeal drawing the females’ eagerness to know about it are certain scenic presentations of the play.
‘Priyangu’s lament to Kalidass about her veiled embarrassment, Chandragupta’s plea to ‘Kalidass’ to abandon his obstinacy and ‘Dharamadhyaksh’s pronouncement of framing a ministerial folk to introspect the Sarg are other engrossing highlights of the play.
The artist’s of the team Yamni who did various roles in the play included Neha Lahotra as Priyangumanjri, Anoop Giri as Kalidass, Sandeep Sharma as Chandergupta, Vinay Suri as Dharmadakash, Aryan Sharma as Soumitra, Samriti Dutta as Priyamanda, Ndhima Gulati as Anusuya and Sourav Kalyan as Kirtibhatt.
The set was staged by Shalini, music by Vikram, lights by Sidarath, choreographed by Rajveer, costume by Seema, property by Sandeep andAryan, make-up by Shalini and Seema and management by Anoop Giri.
