JAMMU, Nov 22: BJP Mahila Morcha Jammu district president, Rekha Mahajan, today said that NDA Government at the Centre and BJP-PDP coalition Government in the State have launched various schemes for women welfare.
In a statement issued here, the BJP Mahila Morcha leader said, “The women in India keep struggling throughout their life. Although high claims are made of treating women equal to men in the society but still they are discriminated”. She said with the NDA Government at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi having realized this fact, stress has been laid to launch exclusive schemes for their social and economic upliftment, and the BJP coalition in J&K has also followed the line.
Elaborating her point, Rekha Mahajan said that the recent decision of the State Government to waive off school fee for girl students in State run educational institutions up to higher secondary level is step which indicates the commitment of the BJP-PDP coalition Government to encourage enrolment of girl students in schools. “More than ten lakh girl students from Jammu, Kashmir and Leh will be benefitted by this decision, which will give a boost to girl child education and minimize the school dropouts because of incapacity of some parents to pay fee”, she added.
Rekha Mahajan said that already the Government has launched “Ladli Beti” scheme, which aims to reverse the alarming trend of declining child sex ratio and addresses the concern of girls’ rights from birth to adulthood by providing financial security to them.
“Starting of ladies special mini buses in capital cities of the State are meant to facilitate safe and easy commutation for women. Government has also increased the number of women police stations across the State, which is also an important initiative towards ensuring safety of women folk. The Scooty scheme for girls is also a part of endeavour to empower the girl child and to facilitate her independent mobility”, she added.
