JAMMU, Nov 9: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today said that Government has set quality, sustainability and timely completion as the benchmarks for development works being executed in State.
Veeri said this after inspecting the ongoing works of new Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly complex here.
The Minister was accompanied by Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavindar Gupta, Deputy Speaker, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Commissioner Secretary PWD Rohit Kansal, Law Secretary, MD JKPCC Daleep Thussu and Director Information Shahid Chowdhary.
Veeri directed the officers to expedite the work on the construction of the complex which is coming up at a cost of Rs 160 crore. The officials informed the Minister that Rs 63 crore have been incurred on the execution of the project.
The complex is being built over an area of 23465 square meters with two basements, 2 floors for Legislative Assembly and 2 floors for Legislative Council. The complex will also house separate spacious galleries for visitors, officers and Press.
The Minister was also informed that a separate sky bridge is being constructed to link the new Assembly Complex with the Chief Minister’s office in Secretariat.
The Minister directed Managing Director JKPCC to strictly adhere to the deadlines. He cautioned that failure in meeting the targets would be viewed seriously and may invite stringent action against the errant engineers.
Veeri directed the engineers to use quality material in development works to ensure creation of durable assets for the State.
