SRINAGAR, Nov 7: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairperson, Justice (retired) Bilal Nazki, while taking suo-moto cognizance of old age pensioners issue has directed the Government to deposit the pension in their accounts immediately.
The SHRC Chairperson taking cognizance of reports said: “….old and infirm people have to go from pillar to post to get old age pension,” and directed Chief Secretary of the State to file a detailed report in the matter.
“It is further directed that pensions on account of old age should be deposited up to date in the accounts of pensioners across the State forthwith”, said SHRC Chairperson.
The SHRC also took cognizance of mysterious death of a 17 year old boy, Qaiser Ahmad Sofi, of Shalimar and directed Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra to furnish a detailed report about the incident on December 14.
Justice Bilal Nazki, who on last week assumed the charge of SHRC Chairperson, also took suo-moto cognizance of news items with regard to alleged use of force on Baramulla Jail inmates and old age pensioners and passed on directions to SP SHRC and Chief Secretary of the State respectively.
Over the death of Shalimar teenager, Qaiser, who succumbed at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura after remaining admitted for eight days, the SHRC directed the DGP that the detailed report should contain medical report as well. “The report shall be filed on December 14”, he said in his direction to the DGP.
The SHRC chairperson while taking cognizance of use of “force on Baramulla Jail inmates” directed SP SHRC “to conduct an enquiry into the matter immediately and report back to the Commission”. Police on its part had said that they used force after inmates resorted to stone-pelting and arson last week inside the prison over an administrative issue.
