PHE employees flay Govt for not releasing funds for workers

UDHAMPUR, Nov 3: Water Works (PHE) Employees Association Udhampur held executive body meeting of both the districts of Udhampur and Reasi at PHE Complex here under the chairmanship of Vijay Kumar, general secretary of association for Udhampur district.
The meeting flayed the attitude of the State Government towards the workers who have not been paid their wages for the past 37 months. He further said that Government should take matter with the Central Government for grant of funds required for wages of daily rated workers. It was suggested that 10% of total funds allocate for works be kept for wages of workers by State Government for nearly 23000 workers of the department who were suffering badly.
The other demands voiced in the meeting included Release of  wages which are pending for the past over 37 months; Implementation of Minimum Wages Act; Immediate regularization of workers; Revision of sanctioned strength of the department, as there was no revision of sanctioned strength of field functionaries of the department for the past 40 years; Meeting shortage of staff to effectively man the on-going water supply schemes; Change of designation as per nature of job being performed by the workers; Payment to those engaged in lieu of land donation; Release of 6% DA installment to employees and workers from July 2015; and Enhancement in daily wage rate from Rs 150 to Rs 400.
Vijay Kumar appealed all the associations to unite and be ready for agitation as State Government was not willing to fulfill genuine long pending demands of the employees as well as workers of the department.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Rattan Singh, Baldev Raj, Makhan Chand, Dinesh Kesar, Sanjay Sharma, Ved Parkash, Chunni Lal, Shambu Dutt, Mohinder Paul, Prabhu Lal, Raj Kumar, Janait Ali, Parth Singh and Kuldeep Kumar.
