JAMMU, Sept 29: The protest of teaching faculty members of Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu, against the deferment of the proposal regarding 6th Pay Commission implementation in their favour vide cabinet decision No 144/23/2012 of August 30, 2012, entered 8th day, today.
The faculty members said that they are being denied the same on some frivolous grounds that they do not possess requisite qualifications, which sounds very strange, as all the faculty members stand selected by autonomous J&K Public Service Commission in the year 1995, 2001, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
The plight of the teaching faculty of this Engineering Institute is such that even after having M Tech/ Ph Ds in technical branches of engineering, they are still designated as Lecturers and getting 5th Pay Commission grades, whereas the teaching faculty of other degree Colleges of the State are designated as Assistant professor and enjoying 6th Pay Commission grades since 2006, they alleged.
It is worthwhile to mention here that GCET is the only engineering college in the State under J&K Government.
The faculty members further said that if every teaching faculty of other colleges of the State and University is getting their salary as per 6th Pay Commission, then why the Government is using delaying tactics in implementing the same to the teaching faculty of GCET, which is merely 28 in number.
They pointed out that the faculty is stagnated due to absence of promotional policy as per the AICTE norms, which has already been accepted in SRO-61 read with SRO-72 issued by the Government but the Higher Education Department is not implementing the same for the reasons best known to them.
They appealed the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to look into the matter personally and provide justice to them.
