Kishtwar, Sept 7:  Asserting that transparency and accountability were key to the present dispensation, Member Legislative Council Firdous Tak today said that administrative inertia resulting in hampering of development activities in the far off areas of Jammu and Kashmir can not be tolerated.
Interacting with number of deputations, which called on him here today, the legislator said that the Government officials showing laxity, favouritism or illegal means slowing the developmental and social schemes in the far-off areas, will have to face the consequences for their attempt to derail the Government agenda of peace and development.
The deputations included from Bonjwan area,   Chatroo, Warwan and other areas.
Tak said that the Government was keen to uplift basic infrastructure in the rural areas where the people were suffering due to absence of even the basic amities. He said that Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti initiated several historical measures in most of the departments in order to provide relief to the rural population. He referred to several social welfare schemes including Ladli Beti, marriage assistance, Asra, enhancement of old age and handicap pension etc.
The PDP legislator lamented that some Government officials instead of implementing the schemes were creating hurdles in the process and in the way were directly resorting to favouritism in rural areas. “No one will be allowed to derail the Government agenda”, he said adding that such departments were under constant scanner and the officers responsible for creating hurdles in development activities or resorting to illegal means will have to face the music.
“During the past six years of NC-Congress rule alone, the State witnessed a virtual dismantling of all the institutions of governance with politico-contractor mafia ruling the roost and looting the exchequer during that dark era”, he said adding that party’s Governments in 2002 and again in 2015 pioneered ground-breaking initiatives on political and developmental front.
He said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was carrying forward the agenda envisaged by her father and was working day and night to strengthen democratic institutions and bring respite for the masses.
