SRINAGAR. Sept 6: The Congress Party today described the current unrest in Kashmir an outcome of the utter failure of the PDP- BJP Coalition Govt to contain the situation in the Valley.
Congress also questioned silence maintained by Chief Minister over the unabated killings and asked to clarify her position as head of the Unified Command. It said the protests can be controlled by other means also, it was neither necessary to use bullets to control the protests nor shall it help to restore peace.
Expressing distress over the unabated incidents of killings and injuries, PCC chief GA Mir today said that Chief Minister being head of the Unified Command must clarify her position on the killings, use of bullets and lethal weapons on the people agitating against the civilian killings.
He said there seems to be no end to the current unrest due to the mishandling of the situation by the State and Centre Govt, as a result, the situation is extremely a volatile, beyond the control of State and Centre Government.
Mentioning that unabated killings and injuries are obviously detrimental to peace initiatives, PCC chief emphasized the need for creating a congenial atmosphere in which people could feel safe and secure, but the regular incidents of killings vitiate the atmosphere, as a result, the Valley is on boil even on the 60th day of the unrest.
Strongly condemning the killing of a young boy by forces in Seer Hamdan in district Anantnag, Mir said the unabated killings and injuries to thousands of people was not allowing the situation to normalize.
He alleged that forces at various places like Seer Hamdan in Anantnag, Rangreth in Srinagar and other areas barged into the houses, beating to pulp the common people, as reported, he termed it very unfortunate and unacceptable.
Emphasizing the need to create a peaceful atmosphere, PCC chief stated that forces should be directed to exercise restraint and avoid casualties in order to ensure a congenial atmosphere.
Reiterating his appeal to people, especially youth to maintain calm and avoid confrontation with the forces, Mir urged them to give peace a chance as everything can be settled through peaceful means not by use of force or confrontation.
