SRINAGAR, June 29: The Minister for Public Works & Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri, today informed the Upper House that Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, has under the programme “Bharat Mala Pariyojana” conceptualized development of roads along the borders of the country.
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice of Dr. Shehnaz Ganai in the House.
The Minister said that the potential stretches covered under this programme have been identified and the road from Uri to Poonch has been included in the programme for Jammu and Kashmir State. He said that the project along with other projects is also listed under Prime Ministers Development Package for J&K (TAMEIR).
Veeri further said that the road section from Jammu to Poonch has been entrusted to National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). He said the length of the road is 67 kms and after entrustment of the road to NHIDCL, bids for consultancy services for carrying out feasibility study, detailed project report for upgradation of existing road to 2-lane with paved shoulders (National Level Standard) of Uri-Poonch section was floated by the said corporation on September 17, 2015 with last date of submissions of bids on March 9, 2016.
The Minister said that three bids were received and technical evaluation of bids is completed and the financial evaluation is under process.
