4925 youth engaged as SPOs

Srinagar, June 29: Government today said 4925 youth have been engaged on Special Police Officers (SPOs) in State from March 2012 to November 2015.
In a written reply to clubbed questions of Rani Gargi Blowria, Sham Lal Bhagat, Showkat Hussain Ganai and Charanjeet Singh, Minister Incharge Home said the engagement of SPOs is carried out on operational grounds and not on the recommendation of ministers, politicians and bureaucrats.
The Minister said the engagement is carried out by taking into consideration the right aptitude, ability to collect actionable intelligence and its speedy dissemination as also a yearning to be a part of the State security setup as primary criteria for engagement of youth as SPOs as per requirement by concerned district SSP/Unit heads.
The Minister informed that 3331 SPOs have been covered as constables/ followers till date under a policy of Government notified in September 2009for absorption/ conversion. According to the policy, the excellence in counter-insurgency operations is included in the criteria for absorption/ conversion.
