JAMMU, June 17: In a meeting of J&K Prisons Retired Employees Welfare Association (PREWA), the members discussed their pending demands, today.
The meeting laid stressed upon enhancement of monthly medical allowance in respect of State employees and pensioners from existing paltry rate of Rs 300 to at least Rs 1000 if not at the rate of Rs 5000 being given to sitting and former Ministers and Legislators for a long time as ailing do not differentiate between rich and poor and medical expenses are rising by leaps and bounds day by day due to privatisation of health care system.
Krishan Singh, president PREWA, also made a strong plea to concerned authorities to pay pending 6% DA arrears pertaining to the period from January to June 2009 payment whereof was kept in abeyance till a procedure was devised for the payment of pay/pension revision arrears as per the sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC) report.
He made a strong plea for revision of pension of SOs retired during the period from 1-1-1996 to 15-2-2003 as those who retired on or after 19-2-2003 have been given the benefit of up gradation notionally from 1-1-1996 and monetary from 19-2-2003.
Singh stated further that association had sought a meeting of deputation of PREWA with the DGP prisons which is still awaited. The association reiterated the demand for convening annual prison meet and up gradation of welfare fund rules of prison personnel (both gazetted and non-gazetted) at par their counterparts in police departments.
