Don’t disrupt peace

Two acts of sacrilege happening within three days in Jammu city caused commotion among the people as law and order seemed to be threatened. Jammu is a city where communal harmony has seldom been at a risk just because there is sensible leadership in all communities and faiths living in this city of temples. What has happened during last three days is unusual and, of course, against the very grain of the people of this historic city.
The post-event analysis shows that in both incidents, the root cause could be both mental perversion and deep-seated personal grievance. In either case, the miscreants were led by emotion and indiscretion believing that by indulging in acts of sacrilege, their sadism would be answered. The police are conducting investigation into each case and the report will show whether there was a conspiracy behind them or that these were only self-driven acts of vandalism.
It is important that the police and other agencies conduct a thorough inquiry into these two acts of sacrilege and come out with the real cause behind these so that necessary preventive measures are taken to stall recurrence of such activity.
We would like to make an appeal to the people of the city of Jammu that we have the glorious tradition of maintaining communal harmony and showing unprecedented amount of tolerance towards all faiths and worshipping places. It does not behove us to give up our golden tradition of peaceful coexistence. We have to give proof of our maturity, nationalism and humanism. Small and stray incidents should not become provocative as to bring crowds on roads and create confrontational situation. Peace is the pre-requisite of development and peace is what people must protect and preserve.
