SRINAGAR, June 14: The Home Department has issued 74867 gun licenses in State since year 2014, Legislative Council was informed today.
Minister Incharge Home in a written reply to a question of Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, said 45385 gun licenses were issued in year 2014, 26094 in 2015 and 3388 in 2016 so far across the State.
In 2014, the highest 20610 gun licenses were issued in Kishtwar district of Jammu Division while only two, the lowest, such licenses were issued in Shopian district. Again in 2015, the highest 10262 licenses were issued in Kishtwar and lowest one each at Bandipora and Ganderbal.
Interestingly the highest 1549 number of gun licenses in year 2016 have been issued by Home Department in militancy infested Pulwama district of South Kashmir. Only one, the lowest, license has been issued in Samba district of Jammu while no such license has been issued so far at Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua, Kishtwar and Leh districts this year.
