JAMMU, June 13: Joint Action Committee (General Category) has threatened to launch agitation against the MLAs supporting reservation in promotions.
The JAC of Udhampur and Samba under the leadership of Ved Prakash Sharma, convenor and president Brahman Sabha conducted marathon meetings in Chenani area in Udhampur and Ghagwal area of Samba of Jammu province for the awareness of general category people today on the issue of “no reservation in promotions”. They appealed to the general category members to boycott the MLAs supporting the cause of reservation in promotions.
The delegation of JAC received warm response from general category people of Chenani and Samba districts and assured for joining hands with JAC for greater struggle in future. During the meeting the public was made aware about the ill effects of the present reservation policy on the down-trodden families. The present reservation policy is just nourishing the kids of already economically sound doctors, engineers, bureaucrats, MLAs, ministers who are crorepatis and lakhpatis but benefit is not reaching to the kids of labourers, farmers and other manual workers who feel very difficult to nourish their families.
They pointed out that the benefit is reaching to those whose kids are reading in premier institutions after paying huge money. But the children of really down trodden families are studying in Govt schools which lack behind as compared to infra-structure of premier institutions. Most of the people during these meetings are of the opinion that there should be a provision of creamy layer so that the benefit of reservation must reach to the needy persons. Moreover many people said that in General category there are too many poor families who feel very difficult to earn bread and butter for their livelihood. Such families too be given benefit. The JAC stands for extending reservation on economical basis without any caste, creed and gender.
The members of JAC and heads of various organizations like Brahmin Sabha Mahajan Sabha, Rajput Sabha and others also lamented on the criminal silence of general category law makers on such issue.
Ved Prakash Sharma, convenor JAC emphasised that reservation in promotion will never be accepted by General Category people as it is creating a mental agony among the general masses and creating a huge gap between rich and poor. It is killing seniority of General Category and their talent. Such practice is never in favour of any State or country for real development. So the Govt should honour the verdict of High Court Jammu who gave its decision after 11 years by observing all facts from both the sides.
