JAMMU, June 7: A twenty member delegation from Japan,  headed by Nakano Yoshiko,  visited Jammu for two days to celebrate 50 years of  the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement International (OISCA-International)  work in J&K.
OISCA International is the first major non-government organization in Japan founded in October 1961. The organization was granted in July 1995 Category I (General) Consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), that recognizes OISCA to be the world’s largest voluntary organization.
A power point presentation highlighting the past activities of OISCA volunteers at Shalimar (Kashmir) and Pouni Chak (Jammu) was presented by Prof B L Puttoo (Prof Emeritus).
At Jammu, the delegation visited Pouni Chak, Cattle Breeding Farm, which was formerly Agricultural Farm where they had an interaction with the local farmers and prominent villagers regarding their impressions about activities of OISCA volunteers and present agricultural practices being pursued by them.
It is remarkable that a member of delegation, namely Watanaba Tadashi, at present Director General, OISCA International, had trained and educated the farmers regarding agricultural practices in Pouni Chak village during 1966-68. Several village elders recalled their association with the team during their stay around 50 years ago.
The delegation also visited SKUAST Jammu and went around the campus. The officers of the University apprised the delegation of the latest agricultural practices and research activities undertaken by the University. Later, the team made a courtesy call on Vice-Chancellor Office who in turn appreciated such international collaboration that will give fillip to the food production in the region.
