SRINAGAR, May 30: Minister for Forests, Envir-onment and Ecology, Chaudhary Lal Singh today directed officials that there shouldn’t be any compromise on the protection of wildlife, environment and ecology across the State.
“When we can’t compromise on quality of our life, why should we be insensitive toward wildlife, our environment and ecology,” Singh told officials during a tour to Khonmoh and Khrew areas of Srinagar outskirts.
The Minister directed officials to launch a campaign against encroachers who are destroying the forest land. “We won’t allow anyone to encroach the forest land,” Singh said.
He directed officials to start a process of land demarcation and directed them to come down heavily on encroachers and stop the wildlife from getting compromised.
While taking a tour of PC Depot at Shaltaing, Singh directed officials to work vigorously for bringing back the lost glory to the State’s Forest Department.
“We should make sure that the SFC gets its life back,” Singh told officials, adding SFC was meant to give boots to the whole Forest Department with its innovative methods. He said that revamping of the Corporation was “highest priority” for him.
“This would not only add to the overall functioning of the Forest Department but it would generate huge profit for the Government,” he said. Singh also directed officials to make the auction of timber for people four times in a month. He said that committees should be formed which would ensure that the work was carried out on fast-track basis.
“The timber and other necessary items from the Forest Department should be readily available for people across the State,” he said. “This department needs a lot of innovative work on all the fronts. From conservation to the supplies,” he added.
