SRINAGAR: In the backdrop of studies which stated that cancer-causing chemicals were found in bakery items in the country, J&K Government has also banned the use of Potassium Bromate and restricted the use of Potassium Iodate upto 20 ppm in food products in the State.
The Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety district Srinagar said Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FS&SAI) has prohibited the use of Potassium Bromate in breads, buns and pavs for being health hazardous.
“The use of Potassium Iodate has been restricted upto 20 PPM,” he said. He said all the bakery manufacturers are directed to adhere to these regulations otherwise strict action shall be initiated against them. (AGENCIES)
