JAMMU, Apr 17: Balwant Thakur’s internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’ which brought Dogri language and culture in global limelight was staged by Natrang Jammu here this evening at Abhinav Theatre Jammu. Priya Sethi Minister of State for Education, Culture, Technical Education, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks was the Chief Guest on the occasion whereas State Vice-President BJP Yudhveer Sethi was the Guest of Honor. Sangeeta Gupta, Principal Commissioner Income Tax Department and Saswati Bandopadhyay, Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, North India were the special guests on the ocassion.
Dogri play “GHUMAYEE”, which has already made a mark at the world theater scene is credited for being the first Indian play which made it to the Frankfurt International Theatre Festival (Germany) and World Experimental Theatre Festival, Moscow (Russia
The lead actors of the play who have performed record number of shows of this play repeatedly all over the country and abroad since last 16 years gave remarkable performances and audiences had the rarest occasion to witness country’s most accomplished actors on stage. Performance of Vikrant Sharma left the ultimate impact of his versatility and command over acting. The powerful acting of Anil Tickoo demonstrated his control over the art of his matured acting. Amongst senior actors who gave powerful performances included Neeraj Kant, Subash Jamwal, Sumeet Sharma, Rahul Singh and Ankush Lakhnotra. Gauri Thakur in her debut performance was successful in justifying the challenging role. She was equally supported by Aishwarya Sathe, Vanshika Gupta, Meenakshi Bhagat and Sanchita Dubey. Others who supported the play through their notable performances included Gopi Sharma, Rajan Thakyal, Mahikshit Singh, Abhee Bargota, Vishal Sharma, Yash Manhas, Shivam Singh and Brijesh Avtaar Sharma.The soulful music of the play was composed by Suraj Singh who also led the singing of the play and also gave an appreciable entry on stage as ‘Gujjar’. The lights of the play was designed was Suraj Ganjoo and executed brilliantly by Pankaj Sharma. The audiography of the play was designed and executed by Mohd. Yaseen.
Prominent among those who graced the occasion included Aziz Hajini, Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Prabodh Jamwal and Suman Gupta.
