Dawa launches traffic regulation drive

LEH, Apr 11: In view of approaching tourist season, Traffic Police launched a traffic regulation drive here from today.
The drive aimed at streamlining and better traffic management in Leh town, Choglamsar and Skalzangling area was launched by LAHDC CEC Dr Sonam Dawa in presence of DC Prasanna Ramaswamy G and SSP T Gyalpo.
The drive supported by Municipal Committee Leh, all religious and transports Unions Leh started from Public Park Balkhang Chowk.
Executive Councilors Tsering Wangdus, Tsering Sangdup, Mumtaz Hussain, heads of religious organizations, Merchant Association, Taxi Union Leh and transport operators unions and heads of District officers also participated in the drive.
CEC LAHDC inaugurated the drive by distributing Traffic Rule Regulation and Guidelines leaflets and said that traffic regulation is a concern of all stake holders and general public and there is urgent need to streamline it. He asked general public to co-operate with police and administration in proper regulation and parking in Leh town and surrounding area. He asked taxi drivers, police and general public to behave with positive attitude while traffic regulation and maneuvering.
Later, CEC LAHDC accompanied by all the dignitaries, participants and police officers/ official took a round to Leh town and cleared traffic from wrong parking and un-specified parking area and educated drivers and general commuters regarding traffic regulation.
DC and CEO LAHDC Prasanna Ramaswamy G Leh said that all drivers should wear driver uniform as identity, adding that all the suggestions given by the various stake holders should be taken seriously.
During the traffic regulation drive, Nawang Norboo, Senior Prosecuting Officer presented the welcome address, while Tsering Gyalpo, SSP Leh highlighted the need of better traffic management in Leh town especially during tourist season.
President Taxi Union Leh, President, Merchant Association Leh, President Anjuman Immamia Leh, President Youth Wing LBA Leh, President Leh and Bikers Association Leh also spoke on the occasion and assured all possible support for better management of the traffic regulation in Leh town.
