JAMMU, Apr 5: The jewellers’ strike against one per cent excise duty on non-silver jewellery entered 35th day today.
Continuing with their protest, all the Jewellers, Swarnkars, Karigars and artisans assembled at Jain Bazar Jammu, after which a rally was taken out on bikes and cars, from Jain Bazar to Nanak Nagar, near Gurudwara, from where a big rally on foot was taken out.
The rally passed through Gurudwara Chowk, Gole Market Chowk, Apsara Road, Dudhadhari Mandir Chowk and culminated near Nanak Nagar Gurudwara.
While speaking on the occasion, speakers said that Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley should behave sensibly towards the jewellers and roll back the excise duty at the earliest. They also requested the newly-formed Government in the State to intervene and take forward the jewellers’ genuine demand, for which they are struggling on the roads for 35 days now, to the Union Ministry.
The speakers urged the Union Ministry, not to waste any more time in taking decision on the issue, as the delay is causing hue and cry among the jewellers. “Delays act as a setback for the Government and the opposition gets benefitted by playing its game”, they said.
