JAMMU, Apr 5: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions for holding elections of various Municipal Committees, Municipal Councils and Municipal Corporations, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice BS Walia today granted one week time to the Chief Electoral Officer to get instructions regarding date of elections.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Senior AAG SS Nanda appearing for the Chief Electoral Officer submitted that as per the status report filed, the final publication of Electoral Rolls was over on March 31, 2016 and sought some time to apprise the court about date of elections.
After hearing Advocate Ankesh Chandel for the PIL whereas Senior AAG SS Nanda appearing for the State, DB granted one week’s time to CEO to get instructions regarding date of elections to be announced.
