AJKKU seeks compensation for damaged crop

JAMMU, Mar 18: All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union (AJKKU) has urged upon the State Administration to provide compensation to the farmers whose crop has been damaged due to hailstorm.
A meeting of Executive Body of All J&K Kissan Union (AJKKU) was held here today under the chairmanship of  Ashok Sharma, former legislator and Chairman, (AJKKU)  for discussing the various problems of the farmers due to untimely and unwanted rains and other natural calamities.
Mr Sharma while expressing his great concern regarding the pending compensations to the farmers for last three years demanded free ration for six months and with-holding of Kissan credit loans as interim relief till the compensation claims are settled. He stressed for launching an insurance scheme for cattle and crops of the farmers. He also advocated for Kissan centric schemes from Government side so that poor farmers enjoy benefits of such schemes.
Vice chairman, M S Jamwal stressed for strengthening Kissan organization at grass root level, so that the problems of the farmers could be raised and highlighted for appropriate remedies.
Dr YP Sawhney expressed his feelings that there is a dire need of implementing farmer friendly schemes launched by the Union and State Governments so that the poor farmers be benefitted.
The executive members of Union from various areas expressed their views regarding the problems being faced by the farmers due to the damage of their corps  caused by recent hails storms and untimely rains.
Among others who attend the meeting and expressed their views included Satish Chibber, Kailash Nath, Mohd Razaq, Sita Ram and Vidya Sagar.
