JAMMU, Sept 11: Lt Gen. Kuldip Raj Salgotra, a General Surgeon and an Orthopedic Surgeon of national repute, who specializes in Joint Replacement Surgery is the second doctor from the State of Jammu & Kashmir who has attained the coveted post of Lieutenant General in the Armed Forces Medical Services. The General Officer assumed the appointment of Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical), Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, New Delhi on September 1, this year.
A son of soil, he was born and brought up in Kot Maira, a small village in Akhnoor Tehsil, near Line of Control (LoC). After doing his initial primary schooling at his native village, he passed his Class Xth from Government High School, Pallanwala attaining State level position in J&K Secondary Board. He did his MBBS at Government Medical College, Srinagar in 1975 and was commissioned in Army Medical Corps on January 9, 1977. He did his Master’s Degree in General Surgery and Orthopaedics from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and DNB (Orthopaedics) from National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
As Brigadier he ably commanded 166 Military Hospital located in J&K and introduced Joint Replacement Services. As Major General, he has held the coveted appointments of Major General (Medical) of South Western Command, Deputy Commandant & Chief Instructor of prestigious AMC Centre & College Lucknow, a Cat ‘A’ establishment and Commandant of super specialty Military Hospital (Cardio Thoracic Centre) at Pune.
The General Officer’s services have won him appreciation and numerous accolades. He was awarded Commendation of GOC-in-C, Central Command in 1997, Commendation of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) twice in 2004 & 2006. He was awarded, Vishisht Seva Medal’ in 2007 for his distinguished services in the field of orthopedics and introducing Joint Replacement Services at 166 MH at Jammu in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.
