Speed governing device

State Transport Department has been increasingly feeling that a devise has to be put in place that would control speed of vehicles plying on the roads of the State. This has become necessary in order to minimize chances of road accidents resulting in fatalities. There is a trend with many drivers of heavy as well as light vehicles to drive recklessly and then end up in horrible road accidents. There is also a growing trend among drivers to overtake with accelerated speed unmindful of how dangerous it could be for those who want to overtake and those who are overtaken.
As suggested by the Union Ministry, State Government has issued a notification in the shape of SRO 50 with specification that every transport vehicle notified by the Central Government under Sub-section (4) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 except the transport vehicles covered under the proviso to Sub-rule (1) of rule 118 of the above said rules and registered prior to October 1, 2015 which are not already fitted with speed governor should be equipped by the operators of those vehicles on or before April 1, 2016 with speed governor (speed limiting device or speed limiting function) conferring to the standard AIS 018/2001, as amended from time to time. The operators have been directed to fix the maximum pre-set speed of (50) Kilometer per hour in respect of transport vehicles carrying hazardous goods and those transport vehicles that are dumpers, tankers, school buses and such speed should be (60) Kilometer per hour in respect of other transport vehicles. We highly appreciate promulgation of speed governors in the vehicles and the drivers are responsible for ensuring that these instructions are strictly observed. This will be a very good step in minimizing recurrence of road accidents owing to driving at high speed.
