Several steps taken to promote tourism : Jora

Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora chairing Governing Body meeting at Srinagar on Thursday.

SRINAGAR, Sept 6: Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora today said that God has bestowed enormous natural beauty to several parts of Jammu and Kashmir which has been acknowledged as one of the best places in the world. “It is our duty to conserve the natural beauty with the collective efforts so that maximum people from round the world visit this part of the universe to see and enjoy the natural beauty”, he added.
The Minister said this while chairing the Governing Body meetings of Kishtwar, Kokernag and Aaharbal Development Authorities, here today.
The meetings were attended by Minister for Public Enterprises, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, and Minister for Social Welfare, Ms Sakina Itoo, MLAs  G. M. Saroori,  Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo, Peer Mansoor Hussain,  Commissioner/Secretary Tourism,  Atal Duloo, District Development Commissioners, Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Kishtwar, Director Tourism, Kashmir, Jammu and Chief Executive Officers of the concerned Development Authorities.
Maintaining that the main objective of creating the Development Authorities in the State was to develop the new potential sites for tourism on modern lines and create a world class tourist infrastructure at these places to attract more and more tourists to these tourist resorts he said several steps have been taken by the present Government to give fillip to the efforts for promoting the tourism in the state which is mainstay of State’s economy. The efforts will continue to develop more infrastructure at these tourist places.
He stressed upon the heads of these authorities to make their best efforts to achieve the objective of these bodies.
The Ministers and MLAs expressed their views to make the functioning of these authorities more vibrant and result oriented. They also advocated for enhancing the budget of the authorities so that more activities could be undertaken for promoting the tourism infrastructure. They insisted for creating durable assets with restoring the aesthetic character of cultural heritage of the State.
After detailed discussion the Committee unanimously approved the Action Plan of Rs. 1.25 crore for Kishtwar Development Authority, Rs. 3 crore for Kokernag Development Authority and Rs.1.00 crore for Aharbal Development Authority for the financial year 2012-13 for execution of proposed development works.
While reviewing the functioning of Kokernag Development Authority, the Committee directed the concerned officers to complete all the ongoing projects within the stipulated time frame The Committee further directed to focus on those areas which can be developed within the time limit.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officers of these authorities through power point presentation briefed the meeting about the achievements and newly proposed development tourist sites within their jurisdictions.
