SKUAST VC chairs SAC meeting

RAJOURI, Dec 22:  Vice Chancellor of  SKUAST-Jammu, Dr Pradeep Kumar Sharma,    chaired the Ninth Scientific Advisory meeting of  Krishi Vigyan Kendra Rajouri here today.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor critically reviewed the activities of  KVK and stressed upon the scientists to work in tendom with line departments for ultimate benefit of the farmers. He said that KVK must concentrate its efforts on cluster villages so that some impact of our programmes is visualized.
He urged that technology available anywhere in the country suited to our area must be tested and then disseminated among the farmers. He directed KVK to reach out to each Panchayat of  Rajouri so that farmer may get timely solution to his field problems. He urged that line departments must share their requirements with the KVK so that an ideal programme for extension activities may be developed for farmers of Rajouri.
Dr KS Risam, Director Extension SKUAST-J in his address claimed that  KVK Rajouri is constantly working for benefitting the farmers. He also urged the scientist to rope in new technologies which are beneficial to the area. He told that KVK must circulate the extension schedule to the line departments to avoid duplicity of work.
Dr JP Sharma, Director Research SKUAST-J, stressed that varieties suited to mid hills may be tried at farmers fields and feed back of farmers must be provided back to the university. Dr RK Arora, ADE also directed KVK to have more outreach among farmers.
Dr Vikas Tandon, Head, KVK Rajouri made the presentation of work done as well as activity calendar for the next finical year. He emphasised that KVK is promoting new varieties of cereals, pulses and oil seed. He also gave detailed account of other KVK programmes.
The meeting was  attended by heads of  line departments of Agriculture,  Horticulture, Sheep Husbandry, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries, Forestry, NABARD and scientists of  KVK and RARS Rajouri.
