The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi has said that the Government will construct 50,000 Anganwadi centers in the country and in two years about two lakh centers will come up in the length and breadth of the country. So these centers will have their own buildings and can provide health care in a better way in villages and remote places in the country. Anganwadi workers will get space to sit, set up crèches for kids and feed them properly. This announcement was made by the Minister while giving away National Awards to Anganwadi workers for exceptional achievements. By way of incentive to the selfless Anganwadi workers, those who have completed ten years and are graduates will be promoted as supervisors on 25 per cent reserved posts.
Anganwadi scheme has been highly beneficial to female workers in rural and far flung areas in the country as well as in our State. The purpose is to bring the rural women into the mainstream of developing experience in social work and at the same time culling a living for them. Of the new two lakh Anganwadi centers that are under the consideration of the Union Government, J&K will have its share and with that doors will be opened upon more rural women to become the beneficiaries of this scheme.
