Srinagar, Nov 23: Scores of women protesters today blocked Pulwama-Awantipora road in South Kashmir against the non-inclusion of their families in ration card list prepared by Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department.
The agitating women blocked the road at Malangpora today for nearly three hours and burnt tyres, resulting in halt of vehicular traffic. The protesters said that CAPD Department has not included 42 families, who previously had ration cards, in the new list.
“Due to reasons known to the department, we haven’t been included in the new list of ration card holders and from last six months we are being denied ration. We are poor people and this is height of injustice,” the women protesters said.
As the protesters refused to leave, the Assistant Director Food and Supplies rushed to the sport and assured them that in one week their issue would be sorted out. Following the assurance of top official, the protesters removed the barriers on the road and dispersed off peacefully.
