JAMMU, Oct 31: Peeved over Government’s decision to issue monthly ration coupons to Kashmiri migrants, various KP organizations have taken up the issue with Government and demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision.
While BJP Displaced Unit led by its president T N Bhat and general secretary Virender Kuchroo took up the issue with Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Basharat Bukhari, a delegation of NC Minority Cell led by its president M K Yogi also met Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, R K Pandita and urged him that the previous system of issuing ration coupons be adopted.
The BJP leaders who took up the issue with Relief and Rehabilitation Minister informed him of the concern shown by the displaced people in general and relief holders in particular about the decision.
Mr Bhat said that Mr Bukhari informed them that from next month the ration coupons will be issued up to March on the yearly basis.
Mr Kuchroo said that they also took up the issue of payment of monthly relief with Relief Commissioner who assured that the relief for this month will be paid before the Diwali festival.
The NC Minority Cell delegation which met the RC informed him about the problems of camp and non camp migrants besides discussing the situation created due to issuance of ration coupons on monthly basis. They while apprising him about the resentment in community were assured by Relief Commissioner that he has taken up the issue with the Government and it will be solved within days.
Later Mr Yogi visited various zones and expressed concern that sick and old aged persons were waiting in long queues for issuance of ration coupons which is harassment to them. He warned that NC will come to streets in case the issue was not settled immediately.
Meanwhile, Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) president Kundan Kashmiri has also renewed his appeal to Relief Commissioner to take immediate steps in settling the issue of relief holders. He also demanded issuance of RBA certificates to migrants belonging to RBA areas of Valley and bifurcation of ration cards etc.
The RBA Forum of Kashmiri migrants in its meeting here today held under the chairmanship of its president Vijay Koul Budgami has urged the Government to issue RBA certificates to the displaced people from RBA areas of Valley on the same pattern as is given to members of majority community of these areas.
Mr Budgami has made an appeal to Social Welfare and Forest Minister Bali Bhagat in this regard also and said that when the migrants are asked to vote for the assembly segments of Kashmir and not registered as voters in Jammu why they are being deprived of RBA benefit as citizens of Kashmir. This is a grave injustice, he added.
