Week-long Ladakh Festival concludes

LEH, Sept 27: The week-long Ladakh Festival concluded today commemorating the World Tourism Day amidst a huge gathering of domestic and foreign tourists and locals.
The occasion was celebrated with the presentation of folk dance and songs at Leh polo-ground by artists from various parts of Ladakh.
Bhubnesh Kumar, Director, DIHAR, Leh was the chief guest on the occasion and DC, Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy G was also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Bhubnesh Kumar said that the significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Ladakh is because of the unique and rich traditional and cultural heritage of this region. “It is the rich culture of Ladakh that makes the people adapt to the harsh climatic conditions prevailing here,” added Kumar.
He stressed on the need to preserve this culture and said that events like Ladakh Festival add value in this direction.
During the festival, various activities were conducted at different locations. These events included polo match, Archery competition, Thangka, Handicraft, food exhibition and photo exhibition of Uber Grenzen/On Borders, Chams performance, folk songs and dances.
The festival was organized with a purpose to provide a wonderful opportunity to tourists visiting Ladakh to have a glimpse of rich cultural heritage and experience the lifestyle of local people at one platform.
The others present on the occasion were CEO, LDA Leh, Tourist Officer Leh, district officers and representatives of tour and travel associations.
