* People from all walks of life attend funeral

JAMMU, Sept 14: The mortal remains of veteran Congress leader and a two-time Member Parliament (MP) from Jammu- Poonch Parliamentary Constituency, Janak Raj Gupta, who passed away in Jammu hospital on Sunday, were consigned to flames at Jogi Gate Cremation Ground, on the bank of river Tawi here this afternoon.
A large number of people from all walks of life including Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta, Dy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister for Health and Medical Education Ch Lal Singh, Minister for PHE, I&FC Sukhnandan Choudhary, MoS Finance Pawan Gupta, Member Parliament Jammu-Poonch LS constituency from BJP Jugal Kishore Sharma, PCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir, former Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Anil Kotwal, IGP Jammu Danish Rana, Advisor to Chief Minister Prof Amitabh Mattoo and many others attended the funeral of the departed leader.
Chief Minister flew in here from Srinagar to attend the cremation of Late Gupta. He reached Jogi Gate Cremation ground where the last rites of the departed leader were performed.
Provincial president of National Conference for Jammu, Devender Singh Rana laid wreath on behalf of party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
The funeral procession of Late Gupta started from his residence at Gandhi Nagar at around 4 pm for the Jogi Gate cremation ground. Hundreds of Congress leaders and workers, serving and former bureaucrats, besides relatives and family friends joined the funeral procession up to Jogi Gate. Mr Azad had arrived here from Srinagar after receiving news of the demise of Mr Gupta yesterday. He remained with the bereaved family and joined funeral procession and cremation.
Mr Gupta had suffered a cardiac arrest and expired in the Super Specialty Hospital here at around 10.15 am on Sunday.
Prominent among others who attended the funeral of Late Gupta included former Ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Ex-MP Madan Lal Sharma, Ashok Khajuria-MLC, Ghulam Mohd Saroori-MLA, both Jammu East/ West MLAs, Mula Ram, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Ajay Sadhotra, SS Slathia, Harshdev Singh, Dr Manohar Lal, Subash Gupta, Yogesh Sawhney, Ex-MoS Mushtaq Bukhari, Ved Mahajan Ex-MLC, Kashmira Singh Ex-MLC, Rattan Lal Gupta, B M Sharma (Ex-MLC), Ex-Dy Mayor Dharamvir Singh Jamwal, Retd IGP turned BJP leader S S Bijral, Ex-IGP PR Manhas and many others.
