NEW DELHI:
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit has said Pakistan is a “peace loving country” and “does not have aggressive designs” against anyone.
Addressing an impressive ceremony held in the High Commission premises here today on the occasion of “Defence Day” of Pakistan, he said the war of 1965 was a “proof of our determination to defend the motherland against foreign aggression.”
Mr Basit said the armed forces and the people of Pakistan had demonstrated spirit of patriotism in the war. “We know how to defend our homeland,” he said. The High Commissioner said every Pakistani is “ready to render any sacrifice to defend every inch of the motherland.”
In an interview to a news channel separately, Mr Basit flatly denied the role of harbouring or sponsoring terrorists and contended that Pakistan itself was victim of worst terror attacks. “More than 5000 of our military personnel have been martyred in the fight against terror and terror attacks in recent years,” Mr Basit said.
On presence of 1993 Mumbai blasts mastermind Dawood Ibrahim in Pakistan, Mr Basit said it was difficult to take action merely on the basis of media reports and the Indian Government has not provided any actionable proof. Pakistan observes September 6 as Defence Day to commemorate nearly 4000 soldiers who died in India-Pakistan 1965 war. (AGENCIES)
