NEW DELHI, Sept 2: A United Nations (UN) team led by Yuri Afanasiev of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed the new practices that could be adopted for expediting the process of e-Governance. The members of the UN team included UN Resident Coordinator in India Jaco Cilliers and UNDP Country Director (India) Richard Kerby while from the Indian side, the Union Secretary for Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (AR&PG) Devendra Chaudhry and Additional Secretary Usha Sharma were also present.
Dr Jitendra Singh reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to provide “maximum governance, minimum government” which also would essentially involve more and more shift-over to e-Governance with less and less dependence on file-work and avoidance of delay due to other factors. He said, the government plans to put in place appropriate strategies for ensuring citizen-centric services and also by integrating Central and State level agencies.
The Prime Minister’s vision for e-Governance, said Dr Jitendra Singh, could be achieved in true spirit only when in addition to digitalization of governance and administration, we could also work for digitalization of the “mindset” of common citizens. He said, this is a revolutionary initiative for a country like India and the full benefits of digitalized governance cannot be achieved without bringing about awareness among the common people who are the crucial stakeholders of every government scheme.
The UNDP team Head, Yuri Afanasiev said, he is highly impressed by the e-Governance initiatives of the Narendra Modi Government and suggested synergizing and upscaling of best practices in this area.
