JAMMU, Sept 2: To tackle ever growing rush on Katra bound DMUs and other trains, the Railways Ministry will launch one more DMU from Jammu to Katra on September 4.
The train will be launched by Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu by pressing a button from New Delhi in the presence of Union MoS in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh besides top officials of the Railways.
“This will increase frequency of DMUs plying to Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi ji shrine, from Jammu, Pathankot and Jalandhar and help the pilgrims proceed to Katra after boarding off from Jammu bound trains,” official sources said.
Dr Jitendra Singh had taken up the matter with former Railways Minister Sadanand Gowda and the present Railways Minister to increase number of DMUs and their frequency to Katra to accommodate the pilgrims and local people of Udhampur, Reasi and other destinations, travelling in it.
There had been demand from the people of Udhampur and Katra to increase number of DMUs keeping in view the ever increasing rush of the pilgrims.
Earlier in the day, Dr Nirmal Singh met Suresh Prabhu in New Delhi for about an hour and discussed various issues including expediting the work on R-APDRP scheme, being implemented in towns of Jammu and Kashmir by IRCON to improve power infrastructure in the State. He wanted the IRCON to meet March 2016 deadline of completing the entire project.
Dr Singh also discussed mono rail and Metro projects for Jammu and Srinagar with the Railways Minister. Prabhu told the Deputy Chief Minister that he will visit Jammu and Kashmir in October and discuss all issues projected by him.
