SAMBA, July 23: The irate people of border road area in Samba today held a demonstration and blocked Jammu-Pathankote National Highway at Samba Chowk for over one hour this evening in protest against the power failure in the area due to burning down of transformer over a week back.
The protestors raising slogans against the PDD authorities squatted on the Highway and disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic on it from 7-25 pm to 8-40 pm resulting into a heavy traffic jam on the Highway.
The protestors said that they were forced to come to streets due to callousness of the administration and PDD which failed to restore the transformer in the area as over five villages were plunged into darkness due to its break down.
The protestors said that despite their repeated pleas to higher authorities they failed to solve the problem with the result they were left to no alternative but to block the Highway.
However, later on the assurance of concerned Executive Engineer PDD and Tehsildar Samba that the transformer will be restored by tomorrow, the people lifted the road blockade.
