JAMMU :The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway today got blocked following landslides due to which the batch of Amarnath yatris has been halted near Kud in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The yatra has been halted near Kud as the highway got blocked due to landslide triggered after rains in Ramban area,” police spokesperson here said. He said concerned authority has been engaged in clearing the road.
A fresh batch of 1,514 pilgrims, meanwhile, has left for the Amarnath cave shrine from Yatri Niwas base camp at Bhagwati Nagar here.
“A batch of 1,514 pilgrims comprising 1,059 males, 297 females, 11 children, 129 sadhus, 18 sadhvis left for the cave shrine in a fleet of 44 vehicles,” the official here said.
He said the vehicles included 30 State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses and 14 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs).
The first bus left at 0445 hrs while the last bus left at 0500 hrs amid tight security arrangements. (AGENCIES)
