JAMMU, June 28: AIIMS Coordination Committee under the leadership of Abhinav Sharma conducted series of meetings to create awareness among masses about the necessity of retaining of AIIMS at Jammu, which was first allotted to Jammu and later shifted to Kashmir, while suppressing the aspirations of Jammuites.
The members explained in detail that the existing medical infrastructure is virtually insufficient and incapable to meet the requirement of advance medical treatment in Jammu and the suffering patients have to be moved to out of State for medical treatment, which is a costly affair and out of reach for common man.
The members put stress for establishing the AIIMS at Jammu as compared to Srinagar due to several technical and factual reasons that the Kashmir Valley remains under snow about more than four months and even people from Kashmir valley would not be able to get the benefit of AIIMS. They further said that people from adjoining States including Punjab and Himachal can get benefit from AIIMS at Jammu.
The decision to carry awareness campaign to nook and corner of Jammu province was taken by the AIIMS Coordination Committee after the agitation was temporarily suspended on the written assurance given by the Government.
The meetings as a part of awareness campaign were conducted at Raghunath Bazaar, Rajput Sabha, Purani Mandi and General Bus Stand and were attended by large number people to give a fillip to the movement.
Later, the AIIMS Coordination Committee conducted a meeting at Ram Mandir Gurah Bakshi Nagar, which was largely attended by the local people. The people expressed the dire need to establish the AIIMS at Jammu as Jammu hospitals do not have specialized treatment facilities, whereas Kashmir has SKIMS, which is equal to AIIMS.
Besides Abhinav Sharma others who attended the meeting included Judge (retd) Pavitar Singh, president JPPF, Inderjeet Khajuria, Gajan Singh Khajuria, Deepak Aggarwal, MS Katoch, Abhinash Bhatia, Kamla Sharma, ML Sharma, Sunita Sharma, Gajan Singh Khalsa, Balvinder Bhatia, SPS Slathia, RL Tandon, BL Bhardwaj and others.
