SRINAGAR, Aug14: The chairman of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq today said that the statement of Defence Minister, A K Antony, can derail Indo-Pakistan talks process.
The Defence Minister had told Lok Sabha: “A part of the territory of the State (JK) is under illegal and forcible occupation of Pakistan. The issue that remains to be resolved in JK is the vacation by Pakistan of the area under its illegal occupation.”
Mirwaiz said that on one hand the Indian Government talks of solving all pending issues with Pakistan including the major issue of Jammu and Kashmir, while on the other hand the representative of the Government of India are issuing statements which are contrary to the reality, history, and international pledges and agreements.
Mirwaiz said such irresponsible statements have not only potential to create tension between India and Pakistan, but it can also derail the ongoing talks between the two countries.
While addressing a gatheirng at Zinda Shah Masjid Rainwari, Mirwaiz rejected the statement of AK Antony and said that Jammu and Kashmir as it existed on 14 August 1947 was a disputed territory and its solution was still pending.
Mirwaiz said that the solution of vexed Kashmir was imperative to bring stability and peace in the south Asia and for the improvement in relations between the two countries- India and Pakistan.
