Tension after miscreants grab shrine land

MENDHAR, May 29: Tension has gripped Ghani village of  Mankote tehsil in Mendhar (Poonch) after some miscreants allegedly grabbed about 2 kanal of a religious shrine land and raised semi structure there.
Tehsildar Mendhar, Dr Abdul Khabir, Naib Tehsildar Mankote, SHO and SDPO Mendhar after receiving complaints from the locals of the area and members from Sanatan Dharam Sabha and VHP rushed to the area along with some police force and stopped the work. The police also deployed some police men to take cognizance of the matter.
President SD Sabha Mendhar, Satish Sharma told the Excelsior that there is  500 year old shrine of  `Lower Devta’   at Ghani village near the Line of Control in Mankote area.  There was 480 kanal land of this religious shrine. Now it has remained hardly 360 kanal. Many people from various parts of Rajouri and Poonch and even from Jammu visit this shrine. For the last 20 years, there was no such attempt. But for the last three-four days some people forcibly started construction work on nearly 2-3 kanals of land. The people from the other community and Temple committee asked them to stop work but they did not bother. Today morning members from SD Sabha and VHP approached the Administration and today the work was stopped. The matter has also been reported to the Dy Commissioner.
He said that officers also visited the spot and stopped the work but there is need to demolish the raised semi structure and seize the material lying there.
Tehsildar Mendhar said that work has been stopped and every step is being taken to control the situation. He said DC is also visiting tomorrow and Revenue record will be reached. The issue would be resolved by involving all the concerned and prominent persons of the area. The police party has been deployed there. There was no violence and situation was in control.
