JAMMU, Mar 27: “People-to people contact can be proved most significant factor for making peace in South- Asian Region”, said Prof Christian Wagner, senior fellow, German Institute of Security Affairs, Berlin, Germany, today.
He was invited by the Department of National Security Studies, Central University of Jammu in its eminent lecture series today to deliver views on the topic of War and Peace in South Asia.
Prof Wagner further stressed more on peace and cooperation than war and conflicts. He said that no other region in Asia had seen as many wars since decolonization than South Asia and that’s why it became important to throw light on this particular area.
Talking about the security cooperation he said that many security challenges are transnational and no state has capacity to deal with them alone. He highlighted several security cooperation of India with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The oldest form of military cooperation was in Nepal, he said.
Prof Devanand, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu honoured the guest and delivered his remarks on the occasion about the South Asian border disputes and security concerns with special reference to Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Prof Deepak Raj Gupta, Dean, School of Business Studies and Academic Administrator, Central University of Jammu delivered the welcome address and Prof Gopalji Malviya, Head, Department of National Security Studies, delivered the formal vote of thanks.
Prominent among others present were Prof Lokesh Verma, Dr P S Pathania, Prof Ashok Aima, Prof N R Sharma and Jit Singh Registrar CUJ.
