Akhoon announces addl 1 kg sugar on Ramadan

SRINAGAR Aug 2: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Qamar Ali Akhoon today said that there is buffer stock of foodgrains in the godowns of the state and there is no reason of cost inflation of various commodities. He said there is no deficiency of any basic amenities in the district, tehsil headquarters and other far-flung areas of the State.
The Minister was addressing a review meeting of Anantnag and Kulgam districts of the valley, convened to take stock of availability of foodgrains, K.oil, LPG, and other essentials in the twin districts.
Director CA&PD Kashmir informed the meeting that against the requirement of 55296 qtls of rice, 6566 qtls of atta, 5500 qtls sugar, 660 k.ltrs of K.oil and 83700 LPG cylinders, 52000 qtls of rice, 4900 qtls of atta, 5400 qtls of sugar, 48000 k.ltrs of K.oil and 78000 LPG cylinders were distributed among the consumers of these districts while as 19000 qtls of rice, 84 qtls of atta, and 2100 LPG cylinders are available in the stocks of the department.
The Minister impressed upon the officers to maintain the rates of various commodities in the markets and ensure market checking regularly to control hoarding and black-marketing by vested interested.
On the occasion, Minister announced additional one kg sugar in connection with holy month of Ramadan for the consumers of the State.
The meeting among others was attended by legislators of Shangas, Pahalgam and other areas of twin districts.
