Pilgrim dies due to landslide

JAMMU, July 31:  A Vaishno Devi pilgrim died on the spot due to landslides while the yatra, which was suspended due to heavy rains and landslides on the alternate Adh Kunwari-Bhawan track was resumed within few hours.
A pilgrim died on the spot due to a sudden landslide late last night on new track enroute Bhawan from Adh Kunwari following which the yatra was suspended, official sources said, adding that body of the victim was shifted to Katra by the staff of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB).
The SMVDSB staff cleared the track within couple of hours resulting into resumption of yatra, which was progressing smoothly. The yatra from old track of Adh-Kunwari to Bhawan continued uninterruptedly.
The deceased has been identified as Sushant Anand, son of Ram Avtar, resident of Motihari, Bihar. He was heading towards the cave shrine with his family when he died on the spot due to critical injuries sustained in the landslides.
The yatra was suspended due to landslides to avoid any untoward incident, sources said, adding that the pilgrimage was resumed later.
Sources further said that Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has also announced relief to the kith and kin of the  deceased.
SMVDSB Additional CEO Dr Mandeep K Bhandari handed over Rs 3 lakh worth insurance amount to son of the deceased today itself alongwith other financial assistance from the Board. Arrangements were also made by the Board for transportation of the body of the victim.
