SRINAGAR, Dec 31: Army today said that counter-infiltration grid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir is robust to deal with any Mohra type of attack in which 11 security men including a Lt Colonel of Army were killed early this month near border town of Uri in North Kashmir.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lt General Subrata Saha, when asked about the measures taken by the Army post Mohra in Uri Fidayeen attack early this month told reporters on the sidelines of a function at Sopore in North Kashmir that counter infiltration grid along the LoC is always robust. “The counter infiltration grid along the LoC in Kashmir is as always robust”, he said.
Lt General Saha said that over 150 militants are waiting on the launching pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) ready to infiltrate and Army is prepared to deal with them. “Around 160-170 militants are ready to infiltrate into Kashmir and we are prepared to deal with them”, he said.
The GOC said that weather is posing a different kind of challenge and Army is ready to deal with all challenges. “There are separate challenges due to weather conditions prevailing along the LoC. It is our duty to respond to that challenge. We are ready for it. We are ready for any kind of challenge”, he said.
Lt General Saha said that there has been less snowfall this year and freezing cold which are posing a different challenge. “There snowfall this year has been less and at places it is between 12 inches and 18 inches but the temperatures have plummeted and due to this there are new and different challenges. We have to face these challenges and act accordingly”, he added.
On Fidayeen attacks again taking place in Kashmir after long time, GOC said: “Any such type of attack is being done by risking their life. Whatever name you will give, Fidayeen or else. The question is when any one tries to infiltrate, he takes full risk of his life”, he said.
Lt General Saha said that infiltration attempts will continue as large number of militants are awaiting on the LoC. “Such type of attempts have taken in the past and we understand they will take place in future as well as our estimates suggest that there are 160-170. We will deal with such attempts accordingly”, h added.
On withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), the GOC said if asked we will give our response professionally and not in media.
