Cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu today blamed the Prakash Singh Badal led Government in Punjab for attack in which he had a narrow escape in this winter capital of the State.
Sidhu was attacked by a group of unidentified group of Sikh youth when his cavalcade reached the Bhour Camp area on city outskirts here where the BJP leader had to address a public gathering in support of party candidate on the last day of campaigning for the Fifth Phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
“The Badal Government has got “frustrated” and “jealous” with my popularity,” Sidhu told media after the incident at the sidelines of another public meeting here. The former MP also blamed the Badal Government for nepotism, rising corruption and land grabbing incidents in Punjab.
He however, dared him (Mr Badal) of holding an open debate on television on various issues. Earlier atleast five police personnel got injured when Sidhu’s cavalcade was attacked by a group of some unidentified Sikh Youths over alleged religious remarks (Gurbani Row).
A group of unidentified Sikh youths started stone pelting at the cavalcade of Former MP Navjot Singh Sidhu when he reached at the venue.
“BJP leader escaped unhurt and was rescued by the security personnel, but his vehicle was damaged by the stone pelters,” police said, adding, that five cops have sustained injuries in the incident.
Police have registered a case in this regard and have started investigations.
Prior to the this Sidhu’s cavalcade was attacked on December 14, when he was on poll campaigning in support of party candidate and protestors in a bid to vent to their ire damaged the rear window of the vehicle in which Mr Sidhu was travelling.
