SRINAGAR, July 26: Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Sham Lal Sharma today had a fresh appraisal of medicare facilities being provided by the Health Department on both the yatra routes as well as main yatra camps at Pahalgam, Chandanwari and Baltal.
Renewing his appeal to the aspirant pilgrims to strictly follow the State Government’s health advisory, the Minister urged them to get themselves properly examined by a competent doctor and undertake the journey of this toughest yatra only after the advice of the concerned doctor. He also appealed the yatris to take all preventive measures suggested by Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and State Government in their advisories before embarking the yatra to avoid any mishap.
Chairing a high-level meeting of officers held here today, the Minister expressed concern over the deaths of pilgrims during the yatra and directed the doctors and para-medics to keep an extra vigil on the situation and take immediate necessary measures to save the precious lives. There should be no let up in the approach even when the number of yatris has come down, he said and added that till the yatra is over, all facilities should be in place.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to chalk out a well-knit strategy to deal with the situation in the next year’s yatra. All aspects relating to the deaths of the yatris during the current yatra and measures for their safety during the next year should be taken into consideration. He said Health Ministry would suggest some new measures to the SASB for the next year’s yatra for the safety of pilgrims on the basis of this year’s experience.
He directed the Director Health Services, Kashmir to personally monitor the yatra activities, supply position of medicines, oxygen cylinders and other essential life saving equipments at various health camps on day to day basis for the remaining period and ensure that timely medical aid is provided to the yatris. He directed him to maintain close liaison with SASB, district administration, para-military forces and other agencies for achieving better results.
Secretary Health & Medical Education, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Mission Director NRHM, Dr. Yashpal Sharma and other officers of Health Department were present in the meeting.
