People protest against power, water crisis in Vijaypur

JAMMU, July 26: On the call of Beopar Mandal Vijaypur and Kissan Union a massive protest demonstration was held at Vijaypur against power crisis under the leadership of former Minister and Congress leader Manjeet Singh today.
The protestors raising slogans against the PDD authorities, administration and Minister of Industries who represents the Vijaypur Constituency  for their failure in maintaining power and water supply in the area. The shopkeepers who downed the shutters of their business establishments,  took out a protest march from Canal road to BDO ground where a memorandum was handed over to Additional Deputy Commissioner Bikram Singh Jamwal by Manjeet Singh for its onwards presentation to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
The protestors demanded that Government should take immediate steps in improving power supply and drinking water. The said the people including shopkeepers and farmers have been facing problems due to non availability of power supply in the town and adjoining areas. They said the power crisis have hampered the irrigation facility delaying the cultivation.
Singh also demanded that the night curtailment of power be stopped immediately and Samba district be announced as drought affected.
He warned the farmers will intensify agitation and hold a protest demonstration in front of DC Office in case their demands are not met. He however welcomed the release of Rs 200 crore by Chief Minister and coalition Government for purchase of more power to avert the crisis.
