RAMBAN, July 24: Police today arrested an absconder, who was evading his arrest from the last three years and also recovered 5.5 kilograms of poppy straw from his possession.
Police spokesman said that, on specific inputs, police party from Ramban Police Station laid a naka at National Highway near Shan Palace and intercepted a passenger vehicle heading towards Jammu from Srinagar, for regular checking.
On seeing police movement, a person identified as Liaqat Ali Katoch, son of Rehman Katoch of Parnot, Ramban, boarded off the vehicle along with the bag, spokesman said, adding, that on getting suspicious on his movement, police caught the person. During checking, police recovered 5.5 kilograms of poppy straw from his possession and he was arrested.
Later the said person identified as Liaqat Ali Katoch, was found wanted in FIR No 99/ 2009 under Section 377 and was evading arrest, he said, adding, that the High Court had also issued warrant under Section 512 Cr PC against the accused.
A case under FIR No 112/12 under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) has been registered at Ramban Police Station and investigation started.
